{"id":1486,"date":"2013-04-26T07:00:59","date_gmt":"2013-04-25T19:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/theexponents.com\/?p=1486"},"modified":"2013-04-29T11:27:55","modified_gmt":"2013-04-28T23:27:55","slug":"new-album-release-eight-days-at-roundhead","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/theexponents.com\/index.php\/2013\/04\/26\/new-album-release-eight-days-at-roundhead\/","title":{"rendered":"New Album Release: Eight Days At Roundhead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In the Prime Rocks documentary <strong>The Exponents,<\/strong> the group are captured returning to Neil Finn\u2019s Roundhead Studios in Auckland to record some of Jordan\u2019s earliest and most immediate songs, most of which never made it to an album during the course of their thirty year career. The result of their sessions at the famed studio is a new album, <strong>Eight Days At Roundhead<\/strong>. The album features seven new recordings, an acoustic version of <strong>Caroline Skies<\/strong> recorded for the documentary and <strong>Geraldine <\/strong>and <strong>Or A Girl I Knew<\/strong>, two tracks the band recorded with Neil in the very earliest days of the studio in 2005.<strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To celebrate the Prime Rocks screening, <strong>Eight Days At Roundhead<\/strong> is available on May 10<sup>th<\/sup> as a specially priced stand alone digital album or as bonus album packaged with The Exponents Greatest Hits on CD, download and stream.<\/p>\n<p>We asked Jordan to take us through the album:<\/p>\n<p><i>I can&#8217;t explain the magic of music. \u00a0I was 14 when Myles Richardson lent me his Nylon String Guitar &amp; a chord book. \u00a0Another wonderful Saint, Gary Bruce, used to bring his wired implement to school. I love the way you get these black marks on your fingers when you play. \u00a0Gary showed me songs like &#8220;Locomotive Breath&#8221; by Jethro Tull. \u00a0I would listen to records and try to find the notes. \u00a0One of the first songs I worked out was &#8220;Close As You&#8217;ll Ever Be&#8221; by the Boomtown Rats. It seemed to just use two strings. I thought that was easier than using six. \u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1565\" title=\"Behind The Scenes - Roundhead Studios\" src=\"http:\/\/theexponents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/49\/2011\/10\/BTS-Round-Head-Studios-Jordan-Luck-In-the-recording-booth-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/theexponents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/49\/2011\/10\/BTS-Round-Head-Studios-Jordan-Luck-In-the-recording-booth-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/theexponents.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/49\/2011\/10\/BTS-Round-Head-Studios-Jordan-Luck-In-the-recording-booth-1024x682.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>I was particularly fond of The Jam. <strong><i>Social Life<\/i><\/strong><i> is one of the first songs I wrote. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t know it then but it is, I guess, from The Who! \u00a0Now I start to get clever. \u00a0Instead of using majors I jump on the minors. \u00a0This seemed to suit the melodies in my head. \u00a0<strong><em>Rural Town<\/em><\/strong> is Paul Weller living in Geraldine. He&#8217;d love hay carting. \u00a0This recording of &#8220;Rural Town&#8221; I&#8217;d like to dedicate to Midge Marsden. \u00a0A wonderful inspiration and still celebrating his 39th birthday. Our school band was called &#8220;Basement&#8221; incidentally and I wouldn&#8217;t be writing this without the musicality of Michael &amp; Steve Jones. \u00a0&#8220;Basement&#8221; songs were going down just as well as our covers. Encouraged, I become prolific.<\/i><\/i><\/p>\n<p><strong><i>It&#8217;s An Early Winter<\/i><\/strong><i>: \u00a0by this stage I&#8217;d become a Dance Exponent. \u00a0Steve Cowan brings this to life playing keyboards. \u00a0This is one of me Mum&#8217;s favourite songs. There is so much Christchurch in <strong>Walk Around The Roses<\/strong> that coming from small cemeteries I am surrounded by larger ones. \u00a0A big jump here for the next 3 songs.
