<\/h1>\n<\/h1>\nWe are very pleased to announce\u00a0that the 2015 NZ Herald Legacy Award recipients are\u00a0The Exponents<\/strong>.<\/p>\n The New Zealand Herald Legacy Award pays tribute to notable and celebrated Kiwi artists who have helped shape the NZ music industry. Legacy Award winners are inducted into the NZ Music Hall of Fame at the 2015 Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards on November 19.<\/p>\n The group formed in 1981, recording first under the name\u00a0The Dance Exponents,\u00a0<\/strong>before changing to\u00a0The Exponents\u00a0<\/strong>in 1990. Over the band\u2019s full 34 year career the group released nine studio albums and three greatest hits compilations featuring hits such as\u00a0Why Does Love Do This To Me, Who Loves Who The Most, Victoria\u00a0<\/i>and\u00a0I\u2019ll Say Goodbye (Even Though I\u2019m Blue).<\/i><\/p>\n While called The Dance Exponents, the band won The Most Promising Group award at the 1982 NZ Music Awards and from there continued to produce hit after hit.<\/p>\n The first album\u00a0Live at Mainstreet<\/i>\u00a0was released in 1983 and was nominated for Album of the Year. The Exponents were back in 1984 to win Album of the Year with\u00a0Prayers Be Answered<\/i>. The album stayed in the NZ charts for a year and sold double platinum in the process.<\/p>\n Jordan Luck\u2019s songs, along with the group\u2019s exuberant live performances, made The Dance Exponents one of the most popular bands of the 1980s.<\/p>\n The group left for the UK in 1987, returning home three years later. The guys dropped the \u2018dance<\/i>\u2019 from the name and in 1992, released\u00a0Something Beginning with C<\/i>, which yielded the group\u2019s biggest hits;\u00a0Why Does Love Do This To Me, Whatever Happened To Tracey<\/i>\u00a0and\u00a0Who Loves Who The Most<\/i>. The album became the band\u2019s first number one in the New Zealand Charts.<\/p>\n The Exponents went on to release more successful albums, gaining multiple Tui finalist nods and wins, before disbanding in 1999 after the final NZ tour of the album\u00a0Hello, Love You, Goodbye<\/i>.<\/p>\n Since then, the band has released three greatest hits albums, reuniting frequently and in 2010 played at the \u2018Band Together\u2019 benefit concert for the 2010 Canterbury Earthquake.<\/p>\n Damian Vaughan, Chief Executive Officer of Recorded Music NZ, is proud to see another worthy group of artists gaining the NZ Herald Legacy Award.<\/p>\n \u201cThe longevity in The Exponents\u2019 music is outstanding and impressive. They created tracks that are as loved now as they were when they were first released,\u201d<\/i> Vaughan says.<\/p>\n \u201cMany of the finalist artists for this year\u2019s VNZMA awards have grown up listening to The Exponents. The band\u2019s influence and impact on New Zealand music is significant. The Exponents are Kiwi icons and have created a truly remarkable music legacy.
